Slave Importation Affidavit Registers for Nine Georgia Counties, 1818 – 1847. This volume abstracts the affidavits of men and women importing slaves into the state of Georgia through Camden County, Columbia County, Elbert County, Franklin County, Jackson County, Jasper County, Morgan County, Pulaski County, and Wilkes County. These affidavits were required by an act of the General Assembly of December 1817, and were designed to regulate the domestic slave trade. Many of the affidavits contain important information on not only the slave holders, but also on the individual slaves, usually including detailed physical descriptions and, occasionally, genealogical data. Rabun County, Georgia, Writs, 1836 – 1859. This publication abstracts the earliest extant writ volumes for Rabun County. Included in these volumes were many other record types, such as petitions, affidavits, accounts, and receipts, all of which can help researchers understand court proceedings recorded elsewhere in less detail. The original volumes are not microfilmed, and are currently only available at the Clerk of the Superior Court’s office in Clayton, GA. Publication made possible by a grant from the R. J. Taylor, Jr., Foundation. Expected to be released early in 2013.
